1. Investment summary and date discipline
SK hynix is a memory-cycle manufacturer whose leading-edge DRAM and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) franchise has become central to AI infrastructure. The operating record is exceptional, but the share price also discounts unusually strong earnings. For this report, the latest completed U.S. trading session is October 2, 2026: SKHY closed at $195.13. The latest reviewed statements are for June 30, 2026, so the balance-sheet bridge predates the July IPO and must add net proceeds as a dated pro-forma assumption. HBM leadership is evidence of product execution, not proof that present pricing, margins, or market share are permanent.

2. Issuer, security and ADS mechanics
SK hynix Inc. is a Republic of Korea foreign private issuer (SEC CIK 0002120882). SKHY began Nasdaq trading on July 10, 2026. One ADS represents one-tenth of one Korean common share, so 10 ADSs represent one common share. The offering issued 17.79 million new common shares through 177.9 million ADSs at $149 each. The prospectus reports 728.866 million outstanding common shares after the issue and estimates $26.2 billion of net proceeds. Before the offering, 712.702 million shares were issued, of which 1.627 million were treasury shares, leaving 711.076 million outstanding. Per-ADS value is therefore the Korean-common-share value divided by ten and converted at KRW per U.S. dollar; confusing ADS/common ratios creates a tenfold valuation error.

3. Business model and memory-cycle economics
SK hynix designs and manufactures DRAM (including HBM), NAND flash and related storage products. Revenue and gross profit depend on bit shipments, product mix, selling prices, yields, process transitions and utilization. The fixed-cost fab base amplifies both upcycles and downturns: wafer capacity cannot be resized as quickly as customer demand, while equipment, cleanroom and packaging investment must be committed years ahead. HBM adds stacking, thermal, yield, qualification and advanced-packaging constraints; it can earn a richer mix but is not a separate disclosed segment with a public standalone margin. NAND and conventional DRAM remain exposed to industry supply cycles even while AI demand grows.

4. Sixteen-year operating history
The annual series spans 2010 through 2025 and preserves the reported KRW basis. It includes the 2011-12 downturn, the 2017-18 memory boom, the 2019 reset, the 2021-22 expansion, the 2023 loss cycle and the 2024-25 recovery. Those episodes are more informative than extrapolating a CAGR from a trough or peak. FY2025 revenue was KRW 97.147 trillion, operating profit KRW 47.206 trillion and net income KRW 42.948 trillion. Historical releases use differing precision and older releases have less detail; values are rounded to issuer precision and should not be interpreted as a single homogeneous audited XBRL series.

5. Latest results and earnings quality
Q2 2026 revenue was KRW 79.319 trillion and operating profit KRW 60.543 trillion, a 76% operating margin; H1 revenue was KRW 131.895 trillion. The company's July release labels the headline figures preliminary; the August 18 Form 6-K contains reviewed interim statements and corroborates the quarter. Net income of KRW 93.923 trillion materially exceeded operating profit because non-operating finance and investment items were unusually large. The report presents operating profit as the more cycle-relevant anchor and does not annualize this quarter's net income or use its 118% net margin as a sustainable earnings rate. The reviewed H1 cash-flow statement reports KRW 91.743 trillion operating cash flow and KRW 18.329 trillion of PP&E acquisitions; six-month cash generation also reflects working capital, tax and cyclical timing.

6. HBM, DRAM and NAND mix
The prospectus reports DRAM at 77.1% of FY2025 sales and NAND at 21.3%; Q1 2026 DRAM mix was 77.3% and NAND 22.0%. SK hynix cites IDC's estimate of 56.4% HBM revenue share in Q1 2026. These are issuer-reported or issuer-cited mix facts, not independently audited segment earnings. On July 29, the company said HBM4 mass shipments began in Q2, with a second-half ramp planned, and that it had long-term agreements with around ten customers. Such agreements may improve visibility, but disclosed terms do not establish take-or-pay economics, fixed margins, or a guarantee against substitution. Product qualification, packaging capacity, yields and customer concentration remain decisive.

7. Capital intensity and investment funding
The reviewed first-half statement shows PP&E acquisitions of KRW 18.329 trillion, intangible acquisitions of KRW 0.665 trillion and operating cash flow of KRW 91.743 trillion. The same filing reports significant financial-asset investment flows, so operating cash flow less PP&E is not a complete owner-earnings measure and must not be confused with free cash flow after all investment. SK hynix has described phased capacity projects including M15X, the Yongin cluster and advanced packaging, with spending paced against demand and investment efficiency. Our scenario capex remains elevated as a share of sales to reflect cleanroom, equipment and process-transition needs; the peak H1 cash conversion is not treated as a normal run rate.

8. Balance sheet, IPO and capital allocation
At June 30, reviewed consolidated disclosures show KRW 26.836 trillion cash and KRW 22.398 trillion short-term financial instruments; reported borrowings were KRW 18.587 trillion. These are dated pre-IPO figures. The July offering's estimated net proceeds were $26.2 billion; the model translates that amount at the October 2 KRW/USD reference rate and carries it as pro-forma net cash, an upper-bound liquidity bridge because subsequent spending is not yet incorporated. Actual proceeds are intended for general corporate uses including capex. The model uses 728.866 million post-offering common shares and ten ADSs per common share. It excludes stock-option dilution and does not assume special dividends or buybacks beyond disclosed policy.

9. Competitive position and risks
HBM integration, customer co-development, yield and timely supply can differentiate SK hynix, while the DRAM and NAND markets remain concentrated, capital intensive and historically prone to oversupply. Samsung Electronics and Micron compete across memory; customer-designed accelerators, packaging constraints, technology transitions and export controls can alter share or economics. Large customers may rebalance suppliers, qualify alternatives or negotiate price concessions. Fab ramp delays, yield problems, power and cooling limits, materials availability, foreign-exchange moves, Korea market structure, geopolitical tensions and execution across multiple megaprojects can impair returns. A leadership label is not a substitute for evidence on free cash flow through a full cycle.

10. Ten-year KRW FCFF scenarios
The bear, base and bull cases are analyst-built sensitivities, not issuer guidance or probability-weighted targets. Starting revenue is the first-half 2026 annualized run rate (KRW 263.8 trillion), not a company forecast. The cases normalize operating margins over the memory cycle, retain high fab reinvestment, apply 18%-22% tax and use KRW nominal WACCs of 9.5%-12.0%, with terminal growth of 1.5%-2.5%. FCFF equals after-tax operating profit plus assumed depreciation, less capex and incremental working capital. Terminal value depends on sustained reinvestment; a simplified working-capital and depreciation schedule cannot forecast specific fab projects, customer contracts, subsidies, leases or technology yields. Output is a wide uncertainty range, not intrinsic precision.

11. Valuation and evidence to monitor
At $195.13, the price implies roughly $1.42 trillion of equity value when applied to all post-offering common shares at ten ADSs per share; this is a common-equivalent market capitalization, not the value of only the 177.9 million issued ADS float. A brief SKHY trading history cannot support a meaningful long-run U.S. valuation multiple series. Watch realized HBM4/HBM4E mix, DRAM/NAND pricing and bit shipments, customer qualification and agreement disclosures, quarterly inventory, CFO after working capital, PP&E acquisitions, capacity utilization, depreciation, debt and post-IPO cash deployment. Evidence of falling memory prices, excess bit supply or deteriorating cash conversion would weaken the cycle thesis even if AI infrastructure spending remains high.

12. Limitations and conclusion
This is educational research, not personal investment advice. The report uses issuer releases for long-run headline history, a reviewed June 2026 filing for full interim statement facts, SEC filings for security and issuance terms, and dated market/FX observations. Older releases are rounded and may not share the same source precision; 2022Q3 and selected Q4 values are transparently derived from same-perimeter annual and quarterly totals when a direct quarterly figure is unavailable. No full daily Korean-equity valuation history, independent HBM margin estimate, customer-level contract economics, or post-June audited balance sheet is asserted. The central question is whether durable, through-cycle cash earnings after fab reinvestment can support the market's AI-memory expectations.
